Concept 8.3

Summary:

-The Calvin Cycle is similar to a sugar factory.
-The Calvin Cycle requires the input of carbon dioxide, ATP, and NADPH to make G3P.
-Photosynthesis' overall equation is "6 CO2 + 6 H2O C6H12O6 + 6 O2"

Concept Check:

1. The inputs of the Calvin Cycle are 3 Carbon Dioxide molecules, 6 ATP molecules, and 6 NADH molecules. The output is 1 G3P molecule.
2. The Light Reaction uses water and produces oxygen, while the Calvin Cycle uses carbon dioxide and expels glucose.
3. The Calvin Cycle is called a cycle because it continues and reuses some waste products.
4. Glucose is a direct product of photosynthesis, the plant uses it to grow and live.
